The flagship model at half price, for a month
Edition of 2026-08-18
As of today, someone who pays per token for OpenAI's flagship model can get it for half the listed price — through one provider, on one marketplace, for a limited time.
The flagship model at half price, for a month
OpenRouter is selling access to OpenAI's most capable model at half its listed price. The provider's own pricing column shows it: input at two dollars and fifty cents per million tokens instead of five, output at fifteen dollars instead of thirty.
The discount is tied to one marketplace and one provider, and the announcement dates it to the eighteenth of September. Every other door — Azure, Bedrock — still charges the full rate. For anyone who pays per token without a long-term contract, that is a month of genuine saving on the same output. Diary the eighteenth, when the price returns. OpenRouter
The AI reviewer approved the flaw the AI attacker exploited
Wiz Research's autonomous security tool, Red Agent, found a critical injection flaw in a public Snowflake repository — one introduced and approved inside a pull request co-authored by GitHub's Copilot Autofix. The AI reviewer had marked the change all-clear. It was not. Red Agent moved from the flaw to Snowflake's internal Jira in five days, without being told what to look for.
Snowflake patched the same day it was notified and rotated the affected token. The lesson is not that AI review is useless; it is that AI review needs a human check, and that security tools now attack on the same timescale as the code they hunt. If your team merges AI-assisted pull requests, this is the case to keep. Wiz Research
Weak signal
Stripe has reportedly finalized an agreement to acquire OpenRouter for more than seven billion dollars, according to Bloomberg and TechCrunch. Neither Stripe nor OpenRouter has published a confirmation at the time of writing. Anyone holding OpenRouter credits, or building on its marketplace, should watch for the official statement.
The half-price window closes on the eighteenth of September. The lesson from Snowflake's Jira does not close at all.
